How do I register my child in a local school?

• Apply via Apply for an in year school place - Surrey County Council (surreycc.gov.uk)
• If you are arriving from Ukraine, Surrey County Council has produced  FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about education for children arriving from Ukraine​

What childcare support do I get for my children in the UK?

• All children aged 3 or 4 are entitled to 15 hours free nursery education. Many two-year-olds are also entitled to 15 hours free per week if you are on a low income.
• There is a lot of help available for childcare costs but you have to use 'approved childcare'. For more information see Get childcare: step by step - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
   If you are working or have a job offer you may be able to claim back 85% of your childcare costs from Universal Credit, see Help paying for childcare: Universal Credit and childcare - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
• There are family support centres https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/children/families/support-and-advice/family-centres/locations/elmbridge - ​ (also the charities, Oasis and Elmbridge Home Start )

What holiday activities are available for my children?

• Free kids clubs for refugees  - Club4 arranged by Surrey County council - Anyone on free school meals should be given a voucher by their school, if you don't have a school place yet, you can contact us so that one of our hub leaders can refer you.   
• ​We've made a list  (see orange for holiday camps) of all the kids clubs we know of in the area , please note we cannot take any responsibility for the quality of actions of any of these clubs, we are purely signposting you to what's available
• Cycling - We tend to get bikes donated and also we teach people how to ride in the UK if that's needed. Subject to availability. Send an email to [email protected] to let us know your needs - age, height etc.

  Michelle Tucker delivers courses to support parents (with children of varying ages) through the complexities of parenting.

​Revision Tips for Children

1. https://quizlet.com/gb. You can download the app for free (there is a paid version but we haven’t needed it). You can use existing study sets or input your own. The data is only as good as the person that input it, so I suggest you only use teacher’s study sets or your own. Uses flash cards / games etc to help you learn vocabulary, definitions, terms, quotations etc. Good for languages, sciences, geography. 

2. ⁠https://www.physicsandmathstutor.com Past papers and revision notes for sciences, maths, English, Geography and computer science. Good if you have any gaps in your notes. 

3. ⁠https://www.drfrost.org
Many use this at school already, if not it is free for individuals. Good for maths practice. 

4. ⁠https://www.kayscience.com. This is a paid site, so it maybe worth asking school teachers if they have an account and can offer a login for free.
