@ the riverhouse barn, walton 19 June 2022
For the second year running, Elmbridge CAN brought together our community of people from all parts of the world, with everyone attending putting a tiny sticker showing where they are from on the world map. There were music and dance performances from the children of Cleves and St Laurence schools, as well as delicious food stalls from some of our families with refugee background. Bantu Arts got our community beating with one rhythm in the African drumming workshop. Inspirational speakers such as Afghan author Gulwali Passarly and Ukrainian journalist Lesia Scholey raised awareness, and there was a special film showing (with Q&A session) about one of our Afghan families and a hugely inspiring project in Lebanon using cricket as a means of combatting the mental and physical implications of war. St George's sixth-formers recounted their volunteering experience alongside some inspiring youngsters from the Afghan Bridging Hotel, in a panel facilitated by St George's Head of Sixth Form and ECAN Steering Team member Jon Carr. We are grateful to everyone that made this event a great success.
Run in conjunction with our friends at the Riverhouse Barn and Elmbridge Cares & Global Goals. Pictures of the event will follow.
