About the role
We’re looking for a treasurer to join our passionate and committed team. You’ll oversee the financial affairs of Elmbridge CAN, ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place. You’ll also monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation and oversee the production of annual accounts.
Salary: Unpaid/voluntary
Location: Home-based
Hours: Flexible hours but must be able to commit to minimum 2-3 hours per week and attend regular steering group meetings (min 6 per year).

KEY TASKS
- Keep proper financial records to ensure all income/expenditure is accounted for.
- Liaise with other members of the Elmbridge CAN team as needed to fulfil the role.
- Attend regular Steering Group meetings and participate in decision-making about the activities of Elmbridge CAN.
- Liaise with the Steering Group members and volunteers as needed to ensure the financial viability of the organisation.
- Make Elmbridge CAN team members aware of their financial obligations and take the lead in interpreting financial data to them.
- Regularly report the financial position at Steering Group meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc.)
- Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place e.g. account signatories, purchasing limits, petty cash/float, and volunteer expenses payments as appropriate.
- Advise on the financial viability of project plans and proposals.
- Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.
- Lead on appointing and liaising with auditors/independent examiner as required to meet our legal obligations.
- Support the overall aims of Elmbridge CAN.
SKILLS
Essential
- Knowledge and experience of current finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations.
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management.
- Good financial analysis skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Passion for the role and commitment to the aims of Elmbridge CAN.
- Previous experience as a treasurer in the not-for-profit sector.
- Knowledge/understanding of the current refugee crisis.
